November 21st Google Wave Hackathon Details

Make sure you have a laptop with wireless ethernet connection ready for the event (don't forget power cable!). I would also suggested that you have your favorite development environment installed and tested before the event.

You need to decide whether you want to focus on Robots or Gadgets API and in case of Robots if you plan on writing code in Java or Python. If you would like to write a robot, you will also need App Engine account so you can deploy your robot there (currently the only option for robots which interact with Google Wave servers).

For writing robots in Java I would suggest installing Eclipse and Google Plugin for Eclipse, which makes creation and project deployment to App Engine very easy. My apologies to the Python developers but I am not familiar with this programming language. If someone has suggestions for Python development environment, feel free to send them to me and I will update the hackathon page with the instructions.

Gadgets can be written in either an IDE or text editor and hosted anywhere as long as they are accessible via HTTP protocol. If you don't have existing server, you can utilize Google Project Hosting capabilities.
If you are not familiar with the Google Wave APIs and need help with choosing one, please consult the Google Wave API site for additional information. This site is also helpful in verifying that the development environment you are going to be using during hackthon is setup correctly (use tutorial examples if necessary).

If you have any questions, please email Monika Adamczyk or post them to the Mass GTUG Discussion Group, which I would suggest joining for future Mass GTUG events and announcements.
